PUBLIC SAFETY ANALYST-SEXUAL ASSAULT KIT INITIATIVE

The Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Analyst will conduct professional research and analytical work in the collection, analysis, and reporting of SAKI cases. The work requires knowledge of the methods and techniques used in research and analysis of criminal data which is usually gained through formal education and work experience. Contacts require skills in understanding and influencing others which are important in collecting data and presenting results of analysis to others. The work is performed in an office environment alongside law enforcement officials and prosecutors. The physical demands consist mainly of sitting at workstations using computer equipment for extended periods of time and the lifting of objects weighing less than 50 pounds. The job may require you to testify in court proceedings or travel to perform certain work functions.

Examples of Work

  • Effectively conduct research on sexual assault cold cases using various databases and systems to locate information in support of the investigation and criminal prosecution.
  • Enter cases into the VICAP database.
  • Use knowledge of basic research methods, descriptive statistics, and logic and reasoning to analyze research findings and/or data and draw conclusions.
  • Use Geographic Information Software (GIS) for census and analysis purposes.
  • Participate in SAKI meetings, law enforcement briefings and intelligence sharing forums to gather and provide information related to sexual assaults within the County.
  • Attend trainings relating to sexual assault investigations and prosecution.
  • Participate in any data collection process measuring any activities of the project.
  • Maintain an interagency collaboration between FDLE, SAO, and the JSO.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of research and data collection methods and techniques. Knowledge of statistical and analytical principles, techniques, and procedures. Ability to conduct link analysis, create charts and/or timelines. Ability to use Geographic Information Software (GIS) to conduct geo-spatial analysis. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to present your work findings effectively. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, fax machines, and related equipment.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with a major in criminal justice, criminology, or a related field is required. A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution is preferred. Prior work experience in law enforcement is preferred. One year of professional experience in research, data analysis, and/or statistical work is preferred.
 
This position is granted funded and is not a permanent civil service position.
