Attractions Manager

From providing front-line management of our family-friendly attractions, to training and monitoring our Guest Services Attractions team, our Attractions Manager is always on the move! We are currently seeking an Attractions Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the Indianapolis Zoo’s Attractions (Skyline, Carousel, Shark Touch Pool, Bird Aviaries and Coaster).  
Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo’s mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. This position requires a minimum of at least five (5) years in park operations management or related hospitality management experience. Post-secondary education (Associates, Bachelor’s degree) or equivalent years of experience is required. To be successful in this role, this individual will need to display a professional and positive attitude always while interacting with peers, coworkers, and the public. 

This position is responsible for hiring and managing all full-time, part-time, and seasonal Attractions staff with the assistance of Human Resources. This position will work closely with Human Resources regarding employee performance concerns, progressive counseling and evaluations. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week, position that may be required to work more than 40 hours during busy seasons. Must have availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. Different shift work is a requirement. 

Responsibilities and working conditions include but are not limited to:
  • Manages all attractions including staffing, tracking of daily inspection logs and accountability programs, guest service bird aviaries and shark touch tank, department labor costs and monitors budget compliance. 
  • Monitors and maintains cleanliness of the attraction department areas.
  • Trains the Attractions Supervisor and LEAD employees in the operations and procedures of all attractions.
  • Develops and maintains training manuals for all Attractions staff.
  • Serves in role of Manager on Duty (MOD) as needed.
  • Partners with Manager on Duty (MOD) and Security/Safety Manager on Duty in the decision if an attraction needs to be closed. 
  • Supports operational needs with regards to Special Events (including Zoobilation, Zoolapalooza, Animals & All that Jazz, Summer Concerts, Halloween ZooBoo, Christmas at the Zoo, xZooberance).
  • Needs to be flexible regarding work schedule. Must be available to work weekends, holidays and evening hours as required.
  • Must have a valid Indiana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of hire. Driving record must be insurable by the Zoo’s insurance. 
  • Works with Director of Safety & Security on issues of safety/security as they relate to guests, staff, animals and Zoo assets. 
  • Ensures proper training of staff in regard to daily operation of all attractions and use of chemicals and appropriate equipment.
  • Assists the Safety & Security Director in the preparation, coordination and scheduling of all rides emergency drills and assures that all related procedures are frequently reviewed with staff.
  • This position requires constant motion and the ability for a range of movements. Requires the ability to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolding and steps. 
  • Position requires the ability to transport and position items up to 30 pounds occasionally, and/or more than 20 pounds frequently, and/or in excess of 10 pounds constantly. 
  • Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio and telephone. 
  • Exposure to outdoor environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.
