The global Human Resource (HR) Function provides an integrated talent management system that delivers a workforce that is Corning's competitive differentiator in the global marketplace.

Reinforce your education through practical, hands-on work experience through an internship at Corning Incorporated. Contribute ideas and develop knowledge, leadership, and communications abilities, while interacting and collaborating with top professionals in your field. Outside of work, you will have the opportunity to take part in activities that will expose you to area highlights, mentors, managers, and other interns – all encouraging interaction between Corning peers.

Position Scope:
Corning Incorporated is seeking students actively enrolled in MILR and HR Master’s degree program to assume intern roles in the Human Resource Function.   
  • Work locations in Corning, New York, Charlotte, North Carolina, or one of Corning’s many manufacturing locations across the east coast for the summer months 
  • Opportunity to work with Human Resource Directors/Managers in one of Corning’s business divisions or in a Center of Excellence (COE)
  • Gain exposure to strategies, policies, and processes within the HR function and potentially to one of the businesses within Corning.
  • Specific project work will entail partnering with HR and Business leaders in one of the following areas, including but not limited to: Talent Management, Learning and Development, Compensation and Benefits, Recruitment, Legal/ER, Diversity Management, etc.
  • This would supply the opportunity for you to apply your knowledge gained in your degree program.
  • A fair amount of analysis and formal presentations of work products will be needed.
  • Interns will be matched with specific projects placement based on interests and critical business needs
 
 Required Skills:
  • Analytics skills - Conducting data analysis with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets 
  • Hands-on self-starter, capable of juggling multiple priorities in an organized manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, allowing for communication across entire organization.
  • Ability to foster change and promote and implement improvement.
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet)
  • Ability to multi-task 
  • Professional attitude and behavior
 
Knowledge:
  • Industrial and Labor Relations Courses 
  • Human Resource Courses 
  • Employment Law Courses 
  • Statistics and Accounting classes preferred
 
Preferred background/experience:
  • Master’s level (completing 1st year) in ILR/HRM degree program
  • Prior HR related work or a HR focused internship experience preferred
  • Global experience a plus  
  • Interest in manufacturing and technology
 
Successful completion of the HR internship may lead to future internships and/or full-time opportunity in the HR Leadership Development Program (HRLDP), a multi-year rotational program for HR professional development post-graduation.
