Peer tutors work one-on-one with students, helping students meet with increased success in courses they find difficult. All tutoring sessions are appointment-based and are held in our Writing Lab (Polsky 303). While earning some income has its benefits, playing a significant role in the academic success of others is a daily reward for everyone on our team of outstanding student employees. All majors are encouraged to apply!

Qualified candidates:
·        are undergraduate students enrolled in 6 or more credits each semester while employed;
·        have completed English Comp I & II with an A- or higher
·        have a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA;
·        have morning and early afternoon availability several days per week;
·        are willing to work at least ten (10) hours per week;
·        be available for paid training the Thursday of the week prior to the first week of the semester;
·        possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
·        have a strong work ethic and a commitment to doing tasks the right way;
·        have an outgoing, friendly personality; and
·        are driven to be a successful, contributing member of a team.

In order to increase our department’s flexibility, all peer tutors are cross-trained to work as student assistants at our main reception desk and often have a portion of their hours scheduled at the reception desk. Student assistants at our reception desk are the backbone of our team, as they are responsible for scheduling appointments for tutors, running our computer software program, controlling the flow of students into the labs, and managing the phone.
