Speech-Language Pathologist (Thousand Oaks, CA)
Overview
Under the general supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), implements discipline-specific treatment for children diagnosed with autism and other special needs. This includes, but is not limited to evaluation, planning, documentation and professional communication. This position will start part-time and transition to full-time.
Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, conducts and interprets speech and language screenings and/or evaluations; develops, implements and follows documented treatment plans or protocols; provides direct treatment to patients.
- Completes re-evaluations, progress reports and discharge summaries with the supervising SLP; Completes daily intervention reports and calendar updates, while meeting required deadlines.
- Maintains productivity goals each week/month by completing all scheduled therapy sessions; provides make-up sessions as available.
- Promotes best practices and ensures patients and families receive the highest quality of therapy. Remains current with new research and up-to-date trends in autism treatment. Collaborates and consults with other service providers as necessary.
- Sets goals and modifies the plan throughout the intervention process in collaboration with supervising SLP, clients, and family/caregiver(s)/legal guardian(s).
- Evaluates use for, designs, checks, and maintains relevant equipment including, but not limited to, augmentative communication devices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an ASHA Accredited program. Must possess a current speech-language pathologist RPE (Required Professional Experience) license, issued by the state of California.
- Typically requires 1-2 years’ experience working with clients with Autism Spectrum Disorders, in either a clinical or educational program.
- Over the course of the fellowship, must complete required clinical hours and quarterly “Clinical Fellowship Report and Rating Form” with SLP Supervisor to achieve Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCCs)
- Knowledgeable of evidence-based practices found to benefit children with Autism.
- Demonstrated knowledge in speech language therapy, interdisciplinary early intervention theories, and rehabilitation principles and practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communication skills with associates at all levels, both internal and external to the organization.
- Ability to pass a post-offer physical examination and a TB test.
- Ability to provide proof of required vaccinations or positive titer showing immunity. A signed declination may be acceptable for certain vaccinations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easterseals Southern California and/or program requirements.
- Ability to travel locally; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards; maintain auto insurance and vehicle registration. 12. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to lift 40 pounds continuously. Ability to reach, bend, stoop and squat. Possess fine manual dexterity; able to push, pull.
