Controls Development Engineer
Tesla Elgin, IL and Brooklyn Park, MN are looking to create a Controls Engineering Program with the anticipation of hiring 5-6 graduates with a controls discipline. Purpose of the program is to create a proper training program for automation development. Once employees are trained, they could then be redeployed to various Tesla locations as we build new lines/factories.
Responsibilities
· Understanding of process integration and electromechanical / mechatronic systems
· Understanding of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A).
· Understanding of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
· Some experience programming industrial equipment:
o Ladder logic PLCs (Allen Bradley RS Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal)
o Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley GuardLogix, Siemens TIA Portal)
o Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI – WinCC Flex, Ignition, FactoryTalk, LabView)
o Field bus Networks (Ethernet IP, Profinet, Safety rated field bus networks)
o Serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments
· Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems
· Understanding methodology behind selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD and servo systems.
· Being able to read /create electrical and fluid schematics in CAD (EPlan preferred)
· Ability to use 3D CAD packages such as with SolidWorks and CATIA is a plus
Requirements
· BS/MS Electrical Engineering (or equivalent – Majors in: Controls and Computer Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.)
· 2-6 months of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
