PR & Communications Internship

About our Internships

Our interns will experience on-the-job training in client services, global marketing, or new business development, are embedded with one or more of our five North American office teams, and are involved in a wide variety of daily client account activities. Interns are treated as professional staff, participate in team meetings and actively contribute ideas, and support the overall management and growth of client work and the firm.

APCO’s clients include local, national and global organizations in a broad range of sectors including technology, healthcare, trade, food and beverage, retail, transportation and others.

Responsibilities

• Monitor issues, news events and competitor happenings
• Help with social media research
• Create social media content
• Assist with drafting and editing client deliverables
• Identify and compile lists of media contacts
• Research topics and issues and analyze findings
• Identify relevant stakeholders and potential influencers
• Edit and proofread client deliverables
• Assist in the development of client proposals
• Develop monthly new business reports
• Contribute to brainstorms and communications plans
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• A demonstrated interest in communications, writing, journalism, political science
• Comfort in a fast-paced environment collaborating with a distributed team
• Excellent written and oral communication and research skills
• Entrepreneurial with strong critical thinking abilities
• Organized and attentive to detail
• Able to multi-task and approach assignments independently;
• Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
• Available to work 40 hours per week

*An internship with the West Coast region is a primarily remote internship, however there will be opportunities to build in-person connects and collaborate with colleagues, as well as other social and development events.

2. One of APCO’s core values is boldness. What risks do American companies face when choosing to engage or not to engage in social issues which, at times, can be divisive? What stakeholders should they consider when making those decisions? (500 words maximum)

3. Please give an example of an effective public relations, communications, or marketing campaign that you have seen recently. Why do you think the campaign is effective? (500 words maximum)

Compensation
This is a paid internship of $16.10/ hour.

When is the closing date for applications?

When does the internship commence?
Our intern program begins on Monday, January 9th and typically runs until the end of the spring semester.
