Intern, Project Engineer (Capital Projects)
POSITION PURPOSE:
This purpose of this position is to learn the fundamentals of project management and provide engineering project management support for a large capital project currently in construction at the REG Geismar facility under the supervision of an experienced project engineer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Project Management:
- Work closely with an experienced project engineer to develop an understanding of project engineering fundamentals, including engineering design and project management
- Understand and emphasize the importance of personnel safety in all projects and operations
- Participate within a large capital project currently in construction
- Support project budget tracking and forecasting
- Assist in coordinating project design and safety review meetings
- Evaluate contractor drawings such as P&IDs, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, architectural, and general layout
- Ensure work is done safely and meets all QA/QC requirements
- Participate with daily management meetings with contractors performing work, conduct scope reviews, manage change orders and punch list documentation
Project Documentation:
- Ensure job files are stored per company policy
- Participate in punch list development and completion of outstanding items
- Ensure management of change procedures are followed and documented
- Maintain project documents and electronic document control for easy electronic archival and retrieval
- Obtain all required closeout information in a timely fashion
- Review installation of process piping and equipment to ensure all items are installed per the technical drawings
- Monitor contractor progress throughout the construction process including a final review of contractor work before the contractor leaves the site
Communication
- Participate in project related meetings
- Assign action items during meetings and hold parties accountable through persistent communication
- Communicate progress to stakeholders and be able to present to larger groups
- Help bridge between the plant, corporate offices, and contractors
- Develop a capstone presentation to deliver to senior leaders at the end of the internship

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required:
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree – Chemical/Mechanical/Construction Engineering or related degree
**Senior or Junior status required
Experience Required:
Relevant courses, club participation, and/or previous internship experience in a manufacturing and/or construction environment preferred
Skills Required:
- Familiarity with contractor drawings such as P&IDs, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, architectural, and general layout
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership, organization, and troubleshooting skills
- Basic financial analysis abilities
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word)
Special skills or knowledge preferred:
- P6 Primavera or Microsoft Project
- Renewable diesel production or related processes
