INFORMATION SERVICES SPECIALIST, SENIOR--YOUTH SERVICES

As a Senior Information Services Specialist with the Libraries Department, you may have the opportunity to fill a variety of different roles. In the absence of the Senior Librarian, you may oversee and assign & prioritize work of the staff assigned to the Youth Services Department.

The Senior Information Services Specialist position is responsible for oversight of the Library Programs offered within the library branch. Their programs provide convenient and individualized services to library customers through instruction, training, and outreach. You will work directly with the Community Outreach Coordinator to research, schedule, plan, organize, and develop programs & materials, and present instructional programs for youth populations.

You will serve as the lead worker for instructing and assisting patrons with the computer lab, online library catalog, electronic resources and other inquiries. This position develops and delivers youth programming and outreach for the library branch; assists youths with researching or locating information; develops youth reading lists and research aides; plans and delivers outreach programs for the youth population.

The Senior Information Services Specialist position offers competitive salary of $39K - $67K based on education and experience.

Your knowledge in Library Sciences, customer service, computer skills, communication and time management will develop daily! You will learn the needs of and how to best assist the local community as well.

The Senior Information Services Specialist requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts or Sciences, or related field, 3-5 years related experience to include 1-2 years of lead experience. An acceptable background check to include a local and state criminal history check and an acceptable sex offender registry check will also be required. 

Under general supervision, this position plans and delivers adult programming and outreach for the library branch; assists library patrons with researching or locating information and responds to inquiries; develops reading lists and research aides; and assists patrons using the public computers, online library catalog, other library technology, electronic resources, and equipment. Reports to a Senior Librarian.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Plans, develops, and delivers programs and outreach for adults within the library branch service area. May work directly with the Community Outreach Coordinator in the planning, development and execution of Outreach Services to targeted populations. Collaborates with the Adult and Technology Program Coordinator on system-wide programs and events. Assists with tours and may represent the Library and its services with community organizations. Oversees the operations of, and supervises staff assigned to, the Passport Acceptance Facility, including prioritizing and assigning work, performance management, employee relations, and related activities.

May work in the Virginia Room assisting patrons with complex local history and genealogical research. Conducts preservation and archival functions. Works on displays and exhibits of a historical nature. Assists library patrons with complex or specialized library services; conducts reference interviews and research to determine the most efficient method of locating information. Develops reading lists and research aides; retrieves hard-to-find library or resource materials; and responds to complex inquiries in person, by telephone, or by other electronic means. Serves as a lead worker for instructing and assisting patrons with the computer lab, online library catalog, electronic resources, print and non-print materials, and other library technology and equipment. Interprets, explains and applies library policy and procedures to respond to customer concerns.

Uses subject area collection profiles of print and non-print materials in order to evaluate currency, accuracy and condition of items in the library’s collection. Identifies weaknesses in the library’s collection, and makes recommendations for the purchase of materials to ensure the currency of the collection. Performs other duties as assigned.
