Bioscience Technician III - Pharmaceutical Sciences (Formulation, Analytics, and Manufacturing)

Overview

The candidate will work in the Pharmaceutical Sciences Group located within the Biosciences Division at SRI. The Pharmaceutical Sciences group includes personnel working in the Pharmaceutical Formulation laboratories, Analytical Development and Quality Control laboratories, and the Pharmaceutical GMP manufacturing unit. This is a laboratory role and based on site at the Menlo Park campus. The Biosciences Division, of which Pharmaceutical Sciences is a part, has worked with our partners to advance more than 195 drugs to clinical trials, and over 20 have reached the market. SRI has numerous partnership models, enabling flexibility in its research and development collaborations with industry and academic partners. Join our team and contribute towards the process of getting life-saving drugs to the market. Responsibilities

 
At SRI we will train bright entry-level scientists on all stages of research and development of pharmaceuticals alongside world-class senior researchers. This is an opportunity to continue deepening your intellectual curiosity while getting extensive hands-on experience in a far more diverse way than available at this level at any commercial pharmaceutical company. We encourage growth, and learning the entire process, not just one step in the process.
 
Duties will include:
  • Assist in preformulation and formulation of pharmaceutical materials
  • Perform basic tests (pH, UV, IR, Karl Fischer titration, disintegration etc.)
  • Performing other analytical methods for analysis of pharmaceutical materials such as HPLC
  • Participate in developing analytical procedures
  • Perform drug product testing
  • Manage material inventory. Maintain reagents and material inventories. Dispose expired reagents and materials through SRI EH&S Department
  • Participate in performing in-house equipment calibration and preventive maintenance (PM) or arrange calibration/PM service from outside vendors according to equipment calibration and PM schedule
  • Archiving electronic and paper documents
  • Ship and receive materials and test samples
  • Maintain safe, compliant, and clean work environment by following instructions
  • Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Other duties as assigned by the management

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry or related majors with 0 to 8 years’ experience in research labs or pharmaceutical industry, or a MS with academic lab experience
  • Evidence of good organizational sills
  • Evidence of attention to detail
  • Good communication skills skills including experience writing technical data summaries for inclusion in reports and publications
  • Conducts complex and difficult laboratory procedures and/or computational techniques with minimal supervision.
  • Analyzes outcomes, interprets results and adjusts procedures/techniques.
  • Develops creative solutions to technical problems; may devise new, novel laboratory techniques.
  • Contributes ideas for the design of experiments and proposals. Provides data and written descriptions of highly complex, specialized work; may include interpretation of results.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate for this role will have exposure to all three areas of Pharmaceutical Sciences: formulation, analytics, and GMP manufacturing, but this is an entry level role in our organization, so we do not expect professional experience in these areas. Any hands-on work in these areas in labs even in an educational setting is preferred experience.
  • Prior experience in a pharmaceutical environment is an advantage, but not necessary. Good organizational skills, attention to details, attention to timeline and schedules. Good communication skills.
  • The ability to learn quickly and the desire to learn new areas of expertise are highly desireable.
