Air Resources Engineer

The Consumer Products Implementation Section of the Air Quality Planning and Science Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of professionals who develop and implement CARB's Consumer Products regulations. Consumer products such as personal care products and household cleaners are significant sources of smog-forming volatile organic compounds (VOCs), toxic air contaminants, and greenhouse gases (GHGs).

The successful candidate will work as part of an excellent team to: update VOC emission inventory using surveys and market data to provide the basis for consumer product VOC standards, reactivity limits, and GHG limits; conduct technical and policy analysis to determine the feasibility, cost, environmental, and equity impacts of consumer product regulations and identify research and policy needs to improve air quality and public health; develop and implement innovative strategies (such as Innovative Product Exemptions) to address consumer product VOC and GHG emissions while incentivizing companies to innovate their products; implement existing regulations, including product determinations, certifications, and alternative control plans. The staff person will also lead and participates in public workshops, board hearings, and consultation meetings with affected industry, trade associations, environmental groups, researchers, air districts, sister agencies, and other consumer product stakeholders.
