Embedded Electronics Engineer (Firmware & Hardware | Ashland, Ohio)
Kairos is a fast growing, venture backed startup changing how multifamily, commercial, and mission critical properties detect, respond to, and mitigate water leaks. We are looking for exceptional embedded electronics engineer to design, build, and analyze several components of the Kairos suite of innovative products.
The Embedded Electronics Engineer will develop and design electronic systems and participate across multi-disciplinary engineering teams. He/She is primarily responsible for developing, testing, and maintaining the firmware on Kairos leak detection and metering devices but collaboration in the PCB development and component analysis and selection will be critical.
Responsibilities
- Translating product requirements to hardware and software
- Printed circuit board (PCB) design, layout, procurement, fabrication, and testing
- Develop and test embedded software for embedded applications using version control and related tools
- Produce/update design documentation
- Develop unit tests for hardware, developed software, and support broader test support needs as necessary
- Collaborate with other team members and contractors working on other mechanical and electrical systems
- Analyze and recommend component selection and perform technology trade-off analyses
Requirements
- Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or relevant four-year degree
- At least 4 years’ experience in a related field
- Experience with embedded systems design
- Proficiency with Embedded C programming
- Proficiency with Arduino and object-oriented software design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with Git source version control
- Experience with real-time operating systems, such as FreeRTOS
- Proficiency with I2C, SPI, and UART protocols
- Proficiency with LoRaWAN, BLE, and Wi-Fi wireless communications
- Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) layout
Desirable Skills
- Experience with CMake
- Experience with ESP32 and related HAL APIs
- Experience with Autodesk Fusion 360
- Experience with Rust, particularly in an embedded environment
- Experience with Unit Testing and Integration Testing
- Experience with Embedded Linux and Linux Networking
About Kairos Water, Inc
Kairos’ commercial solution features a multifunction leak detection device (Noah™) and advanced water meter (Moses™) that work together to identify and mitigate catastrophic water events. Attached to Noah is a leak detection membrane that can sense a few drops of water where water should not be. These membranes are available in a variety of formats to fit any appliance, fixture, or space. The Moses™ water meter does more than measure water usage, it can detect large and small leaks and, if necessary, shut off water to a living space to avert catastrophic flooding.
Note: This role is a work-from-home position using teleconferencing tools. In-person all-hands meetings may be scheduled as needed. The ideal candidate (Embedded Electronics Engineer) is located in the northeast Ohio region, but we will consider applicants from other areas. Kairos Water Inc. is headquartered in Alanta, Georgia.
