Micro-Intern: Patent Engineer (IAP-Alumni Host)

We are an MIT-trained team that drafts, files, and prosecutes patents for tech startups seeking to protect their inventions, and counsels them on patent strategy. Our clients develop cutting-edge technologies that include software, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, fintech, electronics, semiconductor devices, biomedical devices, robotics, aerospace, and renewable energy. We have taught seminars on patent law and strategy at premier universities in the US, Europe, and Asia.

We are hiring undergraduate and graduate students in science and engineering to assist in our patent prosecution work as Patent Engineer Micro-Interns in IAP 2023. Patent Engineers are expected to learn new technology quickly, read and write technical documents, and be interested in startups or entrepreneurship. Patent Engineers will receive training in patent law, be invited to join client meetings, conduct prior art searches and prepare search reports, draft patent applications, and assist in formulating patent strategies for overcoming rejections from the US Patent & Trademark Office.

The Patent Engineer Micro-Internship is intended to be "light" (6 to 12 hours per week) so that students may be involved in classes, research, and other jobs simultaneously during IAP 2023. The Micro-Internship is designed to train students to continue working at the firm part-time in the Spring 2023 semester (and perhaps even beyond), though we do not expect students to commit to this before the end of IAP 2023.

This Micro-Internship is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in exploring a career path in patent preparation, patent strategy, or patent enforcement. Even for those pursuing careers in industry or academia, experience with intellectual property (IP) and patents will be particularly valuable.
