STPI MIT - IAP Micro Internship
Overview
The IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) seeks talented individuals to conduct science and technology (S&T) policy analysis for the Federal Government. STPI, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center operated by the Institute for Defense Analyses, provides analytical support to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Defense, among other federal agencies on science, technology, and innovation policy issues.
The STPI MIT "IAP Micro Internship" Program provides students a unique opportunity to use their quantitative and analytic skills to work on challenging real-world national security issues. This STPI MIT "IAP Micro Internship" Program is only available to MIT students.
Responsibilities
We seek highly qualified students with strong, demonstrated academic backgrounds and analytical self-starters who are able to work well in teams. Students will collaborate on research and data analysis providing mutually beneficial learning opportunities in a workplace environment. Students work with a team of researchers on a variety of science and technology policy analysis projects. Over the course of the internship, students will gain valuable skills and experience through:
- Participation in analyses in support of tasking from Federal Government policymakers
- Interaction with OSTP and other Federal science agency personnel
- Training on specific analytical methods and tools
- Mentorship from members of the STPI research staff
- Involvement in workshops and discussion on relevant topics
Qualifications
Ideal candidates are juniors and seniors pursuing a BS/BA or graduate level (MS/PhD) degrees across a range of disciplines, including political science, statistics, computer science, life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematical sciences, or the social and behavioral sciences. Strong quantitative skills are always a priority regardless of the academic discipline. Students must be returning to an academic institution to continue their educational pursuits after the internship is concluded. Previous successful candidates have had undergraduate GPAs above 3.3/4.0.
