Senior Wayfinding Designer
The Senior Wayfinding Designer is responsible for design in all phases of a signage and wayfinding project, and demonstrates a master level knowledge of the systems of wayfinding and signage within the interior design process from programming through construction administration. The position is based in our New York office, but tackles projects and clients across North America and internationally, and will require periodic travel to sites. The NY office is located in Midtown Manhattan, but also operates with a hybrid schedule to allow the flexibility to work from home part of the week based on team and project schedules.
This role will include holistic design and development of signage and wayfinding systems, and the role will involve extensive planning, mathematical reasoning and critical thinking. S/he will research, plan, design, and administer wayfinding and environmental graphic projects for clients, applying knowledge of construction, zoning and building codes, and specialized processes and sub-contractors involved in signage and environmental graphics.
S/he can handle projects solo, or lead more junior members on projects of any size or complexity. While large projects may have junior support that s/he will supervise, it is critical that the individual in this role can competently create deliverables at any stage of development.
S/he must have professional communication, presentation, and client management skills, along with the ability to clearly document and present both design concepts and audience-appropriate technical information to all project stakeholders and industry peers. This individual must be a team player focused on collaboration, with the ability to maintain a consistently positive attitude despite challenging circumstances, model leadership and professionalism across the team, and represent the HDR brand
Technical Capabilities
It is critical that the Senior Wayfinding Designer be able to leverage technology to present and document their ideas. The ability to produce presentation materials and associated documentation is an important component of this position. Therefore, a strong working Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp/ Rhino (or similar), the Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office suite is required.

Required Qualifications
- High taste level and graphic design skills are critical, both with the ability to produce high-caliber layout and graphic systems, and the ability to curate and guide both internal and 3rd party graphic artists
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or other construction and design related field, or a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or Industrial Design with extensive experience in A/E, Signage, and Wayfinding
- 5+ years experience in A/E industry preferred
- Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills
- Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical drawings throughout the design process
- Fluent in drafting and rendering programs, with the ability to continue learning and shifting as digital platforms evolve.

- Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in the construction of buildings
