Reinsurance Accountant
Location: West Palm Beach, FL
Role Responsibilities:
The Reinsurance Accountant position – would be performing monthly data compiling and reconciling accounts. You will collaborate, across all departments, to ensure the best product and service is being provided to our customers. This position will be an important contributor on the Accounting/Finance team, handling all aspects of the Company’s reinsurance accounting function.
The Reinsurance Accountant duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assist in the development and maintain a process to record and track cessions and billings by reinsurance treaty and by reinsurer
- Document accounting policies and procedures for reinsurance accounting
- Review monthly loss activity to identify catastrophes or large loss activity that maybe subject for recovery under the Company’s reinsurance treaties
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly bordereaux filings to reinsurance intermediaries/reinsurers
- Initiate payment to and apply cash receipts from reinsurance intermediaries/reinsurers
- Calculate and post monthly journal entries for reinsurance transactions in accordance with contract terms
- Analyze and reconcile reinsurance balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Preparation of Statutory Schedule F
- Prepare reinsurance related ad hoc requests
- Assist accounting team with other month-end responsibilities as time allows
Requirements
- Recent graduate in the field of Finance, Accounting, Math or equivalent – MBA preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products especially in Excel application
- Ability to meet establish deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and ability to self-review
- Write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability and willingness to share knowledge with peers and across all levels of the firm
- Ability to gather information, review documentation, ask appropriate questions and perform basis research
