Music Teaching Assistant
Overview
Achieve Music Teacher Assistants support Music Teachers during our after school program.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist Music teachers in instructing 12-20 students on a weekly basis to increase student proficiency in general music practice, including music theory, piano, voice, percussion and/or movement
- Checks for understanding to monitor student progress
- Participates in observation and feedback cycles in order to improve their practice as a music teacher assistant
- Monitor, secure and maintain instruments and any other program-related materials
- Participate in regular professional development (Music Learning Labs) throughout the year, virtual and in person
- Attend and participate in student performances and field trips (December 2022 and May 2023 performances)
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED. A bachelor’s degree is a plus but not required
- Minimum one year experience engaging, instructing, and/or supervising elementary students in a community or school setting in music instruction
- Familiar with music notation, rhythmic values and music theory. Knowing basic piano, voice, percussion is a plus
- Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision

Caribbean K8 (Cutler Bay), and Brentwood Elementary (Miami Gardens)
Compensation
Teaching assistants will be paid between $17 - $20 an hour (based on experience). The total hours for this position are from 5 to 10 hours per week. This includes two major performances, Learning Labs (professional development sessions that are virtual and in-person), and opportunities to work on Achieve Saturdays, if interested. Work schedule will take place from 9/06/2022 - 12/16/2022 & 1/09/2023 - 5/19/2023. The daily work hours are between 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Participants will be compensated for all development experiences and meals are sometimes provided at Learning Labs.

First day of Spring programming: January 9, 2023
Spring Music Performance: May 11, 2023
Last day of music programming: May 19, 2023
