Fall 2022 Internship

The Congressional Hunger Center is seeking three (3) interns to support our Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program, our Learning and Development Team, and our Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program during the Fall 2022 semester.

Emerson National Fellows Program Intern

Intern will support the Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship team with program organization and administration, with a focus on:

  • Supporting Emerson 29th class Policy site recruitment and selection process
  • Supporting planning and logistics for Emerson Mid Field Retreat
  • Assisting with ongoing 29th class support activities
  • Helping design and implement cohort development activities
  • Supporting Emerson Fellow blog posts staff, including writing a post about the 29th class
  • Entering historical program data into Salesforce.
  • Drafting internship learning goals.
  • Giving a brownbag presentation to staff on a topic of your choice.

Other tasks will be assigned based on program need and intern interest. While not a requirement, applicants with event (virtual, hybrid, or in-person) management and planning experience and/or program evaluation experience (survey creation and data collection) are encouraged to apply.

Learning and Development Intern

Intern will support special projects and events across programs that create learning opportunities for fellows, with focus on:

  • Aiding in the selections process of a learning management system (LMS)
  • Event planning for the Leland (International Hunger Fellowship) Mid-Fellowship Retreat & Virtual Learning Event
  • Event planning for Emerson (National Hunger Fellowship) Mid-Field Retreat
  • Drafting internship learning goals.
  • Giving a brownbag presentation to staff on a topic of your choice.

Other tasks may be assigned based on program need and intern interest. While not a requirement, applicants with event (virtual, hybrid, or in-person) management and planning experience and/or event evaluation experience (survey creation and data collection) are encouraged.

Leland International Fellows Program Intern

Intern will support the Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellowship team with program organization and administration, with a focus on:

  • Working with Leland Director and Leland Associate to enable the fellowship program to run as smoothly as possible, helping with everything from research and data collection to outreach to host organization and others.
  • Creating tools and resources for improving the fellows’ experience and learning during their time in the program
  • Planning, delivery, and logistical support of Fellow cohort learning and other program events
  • Program communications and reporting
  • Administrative support for Recruitment of the 12th class of fellows

Other tasks will be assigned based on program need and intern interest. While not a requirement, applicants with event (virtual, hybrid, or in-person) management and planning experience and/or program evaluation experience (survey creation and data collection), experience with organizational and project management software (Box, Smartsheet, or similar), background or interest in international development and or/ global food security are encouraged to apply.

Other desired skills for interns:
  • Strong Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms) experience


ABOUT THE APPLICATION PROCESS


Internships with the Congressional Hunger Center are designed to align the talents of our interns with the needs of the organization. To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled in college, community college, or a graduate program, or have graduated from one of the above programs no earlier than December 31, 2021. Once an assignment is confirmed, an internship plan will be created. College credit may be available.

Please note that the Hunger Center currently operates using a hybrid-work model. Therefore, applicants should be based in the Washington, D.C., area and be able to visit the Hunger Center office. Specific schedules will be determined based on organizational COVID guidance, supervisor need, and intern availability.

Specific start and end dates and weekly schedule can be flexible to accommodate your course schedule, but all internships are expected to last no less than 125 hours over 10-14 weeks between the months of September and December. A stipend of up to $1,750.00 will be provided to each intern, payable at the start and end of the internship.
