Instrumental Set-Up Assistant at Department of Music
Description: Arrange stage equipment and instruments for all University Symphony Orchestra rehearsals and concerts in Mandel Hall and break down stage set-up after rehearsals. Ensure proper care and storage of Music Department instruments. Work during all concerts on stage set-up, backstage management, reception assistance, clean-up, and other duties as specified. Some assistance with set-up and instrument moving for other Department-sponsored concerts may be requested. Wednesday late afternoon/evening availability required, with occasional Sundays and Mondays; weekend work for USO concerts: see below for dates.
Qualifications: Ability to handle physical component of job, which requires some heavy lifting and moving (of chairs, music stands, stage platforms, sound panels, etc.) Knowledge of orchestral set-up procedures, proper care of musical instruments, and standard concert protocol. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet firm deadlines. Applicant must have a strong sense of responsibility, excellent communication skills, good practical sense, and unfailing dependability.
Public Notes: IMPORTANT: This is a full academic year position; candidates must be available to work Autumn, Winter, and Spring Quarters. Students who plan to study abroad, graduate early, etc. should not apply. Must be available for Saturday evening concert dates: Oct. 29, Dec. 3, Jan. 28, Feb. 25, May 6 & 7.
