Engineer/Support Engineer/Sr. Engineer

Overview


ENGINEER
This position is responsible for performing, under supervision, challenging engineering work but with limited direct responsibility. Specific job positions may include planning, designing, and/or overseeing construction, installation, operation and maintenance of components, systems and facilities used in the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electrical energy.
 
SUPPORT ENGINEER
Under general supervision, responsible for moderately complex engineering activities including a variety of tasks in the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of systems, structures, facilities, components and tariffs in generation, transmission, distribution, or utilization of electrical energy. Works with regular guidance in own area of knowledge, conferring with supervision or other experts on unusual problems.
 
SENIOR ENGINEER
Under general direction, responsible for the more complex engineering activities. Works independently with minimal guidance using knowledge of engineering concepts in the disciplines required for the specific position. This job is a senior-skill level typically without formal supervisory responsibility, although may supervise one or two less experienced individuals. May provide guidance and direction to other PPL employees to support production of high quality, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions to technical problems.

Responsibilities

ENGINEER
  1. Assists in the work on smaller engineering projects or well-defined areas of larger Uses existing procedures to investigate, evaluate and assist in producing technically correct and cost-effective designs or recommendations that solve ongoing problems.
  2. Builds relationships that will facilitate knowledge transfer, cross functional knowledge of related work groups, and ability to present work products effectively.
  3. Works under supervision in the field and/or home office in a variety of functions and challenging but structured work that develops competencies in the function/discipline.
  4. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using well defined engineering procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems, and engineering studies.
  5. Continually expands and improves technical and business skill set under own initiative with instruction, guidance, and direction from others.
  6. Assists in a variety of topics including developing innovative procedures, improved design recommendations or new or better equipment purchase recommendations.
  7. All positions in which driving is an essential function of the job, regardless if the job code is marked safety sensitive or not, will also be included as safety sensitive.
  8. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. This is a special assignment that comes into play during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service. This role may necessitate the need to work after-hours, outside of your normal schedule.
  9. The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change. In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

SUPPORT ENGINEER
  1. Prepares moderately complex plans and conducts engineering assignments, alone or as part of a Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.  Reviews design documentation to determine compliance with design criteria or standards.
  2. Works in a variety of engineering functions either in field locations or in the home office, which may include necessary activities to optimize system/component performance and availability, and analysis for and development of design packages to add/modify systems, components or standards.
  3. Solves a range of moderately complex technical problems or Analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures. Applies broad engineering principles to provide technical and cost-effective recommendations that resolve difficult assignments.
  4. Works effectively in a team environment and may assume the role of team leader.
  5. Prepares cost estimates and assists in bid and material procurement contract evaluations.
  6. Assists in the special testing of components, troubleshooting of equipment or process problems or special studies.
  7. Provides technical guidance and recommendations to other PPL employees in support of high quality, timely and cost-effective engineering solutions to technical problems.
  8. Builds knowledge of the organization processes, customers, and wide understanding of the technical and engineering aspect of the equipment and facilities in the function's work scope.

SENIOR ENGINEER
  1. Evaluates, plans, conducts, and supervises engineering Works alone or as part of a project team. Leads engineers, technicians, analysts or others within the work group or cross-functional team.
  2. Prepares more complex engineering assignments, alone or as part of a Monitors the progress of assigned employees, ensures problems are being identified and resolved, and equitably distributes work. Reviews design documentation to determine compliance with design criteria or standards. Schedules work to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
  3. Works independently with minimal guidance in a variety of engineering functions either in field locations or in the home office, which may include necessary activities to optimize system/component performance and availability, and analysis for and development of design packages to add/modify systems, components or standards.
  4. Prepares and analyzes data and performs necessary activities to optimize system/component performance and availabilty. 
  5. Completes design packages to add/modify systems or components. Maintains the design basis or standards forv PPL equipment or facilities, and as needed produces design documents to change that design.
  6. Enhances team performance by serving as a design team leader and presents the results of the work groups efforts. May be required to review and approve design work completed by contractors and be a key interface with other groups.
  7. Provide project management services, including project coordination, contract administration, material tracking, scheduling and cost monitoring on projects, and review with May prepare/review cost estimates, perform bid evaluations, administer material procurement contracts.
  8. Provides functional advice or training to less-experienced engineers and other technical Serves as a technical expert in specific areas. Uses strong engineering principles to provide technically correct and cost-effective recommendations that solve design concerns.
  9. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May direct the work of other staff members.
  10. Increases and applies knowledge of technical and business skill sets.
  11. May be assigned an Electric Utilities emergency and storm role. Qualifications

ENGINEER
Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially equivalent. Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.
  2. Internship/co-op in the energy industry preferred.
  3. Engineer in Training Certificate.

SUPPORT ENGINEER
Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.
  2. Minimum 2 years related engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements. OR PE license in the state of Pennsylvania.
  2. Engineer in Training
  3. Experience in the energy
  4. PE license in the state of Pennsylvania.
 
SENIOR ENGINEER
Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements.
  2. Minimum 5 years related engineering experience.
  3. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards for the specific position.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's Degree in engineering or engineering technology from a college or university accredited by ABET or recognized by ABET as substantially (Discipline required will vary by the specific job requirements).
  2. Professional Engineer registered in applicable state.
