CNHP Biodiversity Data Curator

The Biodiversity Data Curators are students with a work study award (that is required for this position), who work with scientists at the Colorado Natural Heritage Program (CNHP) to bring records of rare and imperiled species in Colorado into our database. They will learn about Colorado’s rarest species and build the maps and records that are used to save them. They may also work with our Wetlands Team on wetland data and plant collections, and also work on our Colorado Rare Plant Field Guide. Students who are interested in conservation of biodiversity will benefit greatly from this position. It is a chance to be mentored by Colorado’s experts on rare species, build the database that is used to conserve biodiversity, learn about potential employers, and have a lot of fun while doing meaningful and rewarding work. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Learn how to use GIS and the Biotics Database to map rare species.

·        Work with the team to process the records, map them, and complete the attributes for each record in the database.

·        Work with the team to complete quality control steps for the records of rare species.

·        File any hardcopies of data that are sent to CNHP.

·        Examine and organize plant specimens.

·        Develop materials to enhance the Colorado Rare Plant Field Guide.
