Communications and Digital Media Assistant Intern
The communications/digital media intern will work as a member of a team and report directly to the Chief of Policy and Engagement under the supervision of the Communications and Marketing Manager or the Digital Media Manager . The ideal candidate will be working towards a degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Photography, Videography, Graphic Designer related field. The scope of work may include, but not be limited to:
- Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other related material
- Develop flyers, invitations, and other collateral
- Prepare reports and announcements to share with stakeholders and community partners
- Prepare email blasts and eNewsletter
- Assist in communicating proposed and/or approved departmental initiatives, policies and/or events
- Supporting office efforts to increase community presence and engagement
- Supporting the department with planning, scheduling, organizing and attending community meetings, community outreaches, special events and press conferences
- Attend community meetings, community outreaches, special events and press conferences
- Working with diverse constituents in various areas of Detroit
- Extensive use of various social media tools such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and TikTok
- Creating digital content
- Daily monitoring of social media
- Ability to research, design and implement social media strategies
- Daily reporting and escalation of applicable community activity
- Regularly finessing messaging for the community.
- Engage regularly with online audience within determined channels
- Leverage performance data and metrics to optimize content.
- Require excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Pay strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines
- Show initiative and work collaboratively
- Perform other duties as assigned
