Family Engagement Specialist (PT)

WXXI Education is seeking a Part-Time Family Engagement Specialist (approximately 20 hours per week) to assist with our Ready To Learn: Learning Neighborhood efforts. This is a 3-year grant-funded position with WXXI Education, as part of the Ready To Learn: Learning Neighborhood Partnership grant.

The ideal candidate is experienced working with young children (ages 2 to 8 years old) and supporting the diverse adults who care for them (early childhood educators, childcare providers, parents, caregivers, librarians, and other caring adults), and enthusiastic about serving Rochester families and PBS KIDS! The ideal candidate will be bilingual in Spanish a PBS KID at heart and understand the role of educational media in a family’s life. The position involves both in-person and virtual engagement, travel to different community sites in the City of Rochester, evening and weekend work, and lifting of training materials.
 
Responsibilities:
·        Report to and collaborate with WXXI’s Manager of Educational Training & Family Engagement as part of WXXI’s Ready To Learn: Learning Neighborhood efforts, funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and U.S. Department of Education.
·        Help coordinate a variety of family and early childhood engagement experiences alongside a group of community partners (“Learning Neighborhood Partnership”)
·        Facilitate virtual educator professional development and family/caregiver workshops in an engaging and inclusive way in both English and Spanish.
·        Learn about best practices for using educational media, specifically from PBS KIDS, to support early learning
·        Coordinate with community partners to schedule and plan logistics for in-person or virtual workshops.
Provide support for community partners in recruiting educators and families to participate in workshops and training sessions. 
·        Distribute surveys and work with community partners to evaluate workshop and training success.
·        Additional duties, as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
·        Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early education, education, sociology, psychology, communications, social work, health or a related field; and, one (1) year experience or volunteer work with education and/or community programs, which involves parents/caregivers, young children, and/or community.

·        High school diploma or equivalency, and five (5) years experience or volunteer work with education and/or community programs, which involves parents/caregivers, young children, and/or community.
or
·        Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in early education, education, sociology, psychology, communications, social work, health, or related field; and, three (3) years experience or volunteer work with education and/or community programs, which involves parents/caregivers, young children, and/or community;
·        Strong oral and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
·        Interest in community partnerships, collective action work, and supporting family engagement efforts
·        Strong commitment to collaboration, diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion
·        Ability to work within a multi-cultural community, recognizing the sensitive nature of collaborating with people of different cultural backgrounds and expectations
·        Strong computer and technology skills
·        A valid NYS driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:
·        Fluent in both English and Spanish, and feels comfortable delivering trainings in English and Spanish.
·        Experience engaging and empowering high-need families and planning family/community events
·        Experience working as an educational coach or facilitating professional learning opportunities as a trainer
·        Previous experience supporting parents and caregivers, such as a parent-liaison or adult-family educator.
·        Project management experience
