Location: Des Moines, IA (in-person)
Dates: September 26 - December 16, 2022
Compensation: $600/week stipend

COVID-19 Note:
Many of Can Play’s special needs participants are moderately or severely immunocompromised, so they currently ask staff to wear a mask during all programming. Staff do not need to wear a mask when working in the office. They also prefer staff to be fully vaccinated and have a booster shot, unless a waiver is provided.
Due to COVID-19, FLIA and Can Play may move the fellowship entirely remote if there is a spike in cases.
Future Leaders in Action Overview:
Future Leaders in Action (FLIA) cultivates leaders and strengthens youth-oriented nonprofits through a fellowship program. Fellows, individuals interested in entering the social sector, work on-site full-time at a partner nonprofit to develop or implement a pre-determined enrichment program.
Throughout the fellowship, fellows gain various professional skills including time-management, communication, program development, in a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment.
Can Play Overview:
Can Play delivers adaptive and no-cost sports-based development programs for underserved youth to give them the opportunity to play. Can Play supplements the cost of playing sports and adapts the play to the skill level for each child, creating the opportunity for everybody to play despite their financial, physical, cognitive, emotional or chronic health care barriers to participation.
Position Overview and Responsibilities:
You will …
- Support Can Play’s long-term licensing goals by supporting the expansion and development of its licensing program
- Actively participate in weekly FLIA professional development responsibilities including check-in calls and virtual weekly leadership workshops
- Attend virtual leadership training retreat and in-person gatherings with local fellows
By the end of the fellowship, you will have …
- Assist our licensing program manager in establishing 20 licensed locations by the end of 2022 (team/organizational goal)
- All our Opportunity and Courage licensing curricula will be updated and reformatted to ensure consistency of presentation
- List of 250 potential non-profit, organizational or individual partners developed for licensing outreach
- Appropriate research method selected and implemented to measure and collect feedback from licensees with 75% response rate
- Developed multi-tier licensing offerings (if research deems appropriate)
- Two new support resources or communication methods identified and imitated (if research deems appropriate)
- Build three strong relationships with licensees to suggest new revenue opportunities or marketing improvements (if research deems appropriate)
- Written two blog articles
- Completed final report and video about fellowship
