Intramural Sports Official (Campus Recreation)
JOB DESCRIPTION
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
An Intramural Sports Official is the foremost individual in Intramural Sports. Campus Recreation is looking for students who are teachable, dependable, motivated, and display positive attitude and effort to become ambassadors for the Intramural Sports Program.
Intramural Sports Officials are responsible for working with their peers to provide a welcoming, safe and enjoyable environment for all intramural participants. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain control of Intramural contests while also facilitating a balance of fair competition and fun. Officials should display a professional demeanor on-site and should always be proactively striving to improve their officiating skills.
*Please note that previous officiating experience is NOT required. All student officials will be given both classroom and practical training prior to officiating.*
Job Requirements & Expectations:
· Must be a currently enrolled student at Bellarmine University
· Attend all staff and sport-specific officials training clinics
· Ability to officiate multiple Intramural Sports, including but not limited to constant movement up and down a field/court and continuous physical activity
· Ability to move sporting goods and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
· Ability to occasionally work in outdoor weather conditions (cold, wind, rain, etc.)
· Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
· Call all Intramural contests with complete honesty and integrity
· Arrive prepared, on time, and dressed appropriately in uniform to all scheduled shifts
· Understand emergency/evacuation policies and procedures
· Become certified in CPR and First Aid (through the Campus Recreation Program)
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Officiate Intramural contests
· Knowledge of all Intramural game/activity rules and program policies
· Assist with pre- and post-game logistics and administrative functions as well as preparation and inspection of game/event sites
· Ensure a safe environment for intramural participants by thoroughly inspecting the players and playing area before a competition
· Verify participant eligibility
· Run captain’s meetings prior to each competition
· Enforce established rules during intramural competitions
· Handle on-site disputes involving player conflict and rule interpretation
· Evaluate sportsmanship of intramural teams and participants
· Provide positive public relations, program promotion, and policy education to participants
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Intramural Sports
Hours:
· Approximately 90% of Intramural Sports hours of operation are outside the traditional workday.
· Intramural Officials must commit to working a minimum of five (5) hours per week.
· Night and weekend hours are required. Intramural games and events are held on weeknight evenings (primarily Wednesdays) between 4:30PM and 11:00PM and on Sundays between 12:00PM and 6:00PM.
· Officials are responsible for clocking in and out each shift and keeping up with their own hours
