Purpose of Position/Job Description:
Assist University staff in cleaning, organizing and maintaining tools and equipment in Sculpture Studio and other shops associated with the Visual Arts Department. Aside from routine cleaning and maintenance, there will be opportunity to assist in the construction of items useful to the department, such as display pedestals, racks and shelves; picture frames, shadow boxes and specialty storage fixtures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect, clean and maintain machines and handheld power tools. Helpers will be taught to check and adjust precision equipment as well as sharpen edge tools. Helpers will be taught the construction of items useful to the department, such as the pedestals and frames mentioned above.
General Qualifications:
Applicants should be able to work 2 to 4 hour days , 3 or more afternoons a week. Applicants should be capable of lifting and carrying 25 pounds. Applicants should be proficient in arithmetic and geometry.
