China Labor Watch is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and experienced individual to join its program team. This program officer position requires fluency in both Chinese and English with excellent writing skills, and knowledge on human rights and labor issues in China. Program officer will be responsible for all components for the assigned program, from initial stages of planning and budgeting to regular follow-ups. Employees at China Labor Watch must have flexibility at work and often are required to take up multiple tasks, but we aim to ensure equitable workload across the organization. Therefore sometimes the program officer is expected to provide assistance in other programs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Research, conceptualize, and support new and existing programs
- Compile reports to funders and the board
- Maintain and deepen the professional and personal networks between program participants and between the participants and CLW
- Oversee the day-to-day programmatic, logistical, administrative and wrap-up of the programs, including regular coordination with partner organizations
- Collaborate with senior staff members and program assistants to attain program goals
- Support development department colleagues on fundraising strategies, to ensure that programs maintain their financial support
- Coordinate with other labor or human rights organizations and funders to ensure coordinated planning
Additional Responsibilities
- Keep current on developments in China and US-China relations
- Draft and coordinate the dissemination of programmatic materials
- Set up/manage invitations and registration systems as needed
- Deliver programs on budget, conduct all necessary vendor bidding, expense reimbursements, and invoicing
- Oversee/support travel and logistics, as needed
- Manage social media accounts on popular American and Chinese social media applications
Qualifications
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with a keen ability to adapt communication style to different audiences
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize long-term projects and short-term assignments in a deadline-driven environment
- Facility both for working collaboratively with a team and for working independently
- Analytical and creative problem-solving capacity
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of working effectively on a team
- Ability to take initiative and respond flexibly to evolving circumstances
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel
- Must be willing and able to travel internationally
- Priorities will be given to those with work experiences at NGOs
- Past living experience in China is an asset
- Good oral communication and writing skills in Chinese is an asset
- Willingness and flexibility to work in non-profit environment in evenings and weekends
- Bachelor degree is required, priorities will be given to those with Masters degree in humanities

Annual salary between $55,000 and $65,000, depending on the applicant’s qualifications
