Supplier Industrialization Engineering Intern (Fall 2022)

ABOUT YOU AND THE ROLE 

Note: This is a paid opportunity, and if needed we can accommodate some student visas

The Supplier Industrialization Engineering (SIE) Team is responsible for ensuring the success of Zipline’s Supply Chain as Zipline continues to expand its operations nationally & internationally, as well as, introduce new products to further improve our offerings to customers. This involves: 
  • Identification & qualification of reliable suppliers who Zipline can partner with
  • Helping internal teams design parts that are easy to manufacture reducing cost & improving quality
  • Ensuring that the supplier develops reliable processes & systems that can continuously produce parts that meet engineering specifications throughout the lifecycle of the product


WHAT YOU'LL DO 

  • Help the GSM Team identify potential suppliers & assess suppliers through factory assessments & performance review 
  • Conduct discussions on DfX (Design for X) with internal & external stakeholders & implement relevant feedback into part designs
  • Facilitate communication & clarification of design delivery package requirements for parts between the Supplier, Zipline GSM & Zipline Design Engineering Teams to ensure that the supplier is set up for success
  • Manage development of manufacturing process & system related documentation & implementation to ensure the Supplier’s compliance with all the requirements of the Zipline Approval Process (ZAP) (similar to PPAP)
  • Assist the supplier with Root Cause Analysis (RCA)/ Corrective Action & Preventive Action (CAPA) in case of quality issues to ensure that the problem is properly investigated & necessary actions are taken to prevent recurrence and/ or occurrence of the issue
  • Track, report & review Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with Internal (GSM, Finance, etc.) & External (Supplier) Stakeholders to create action plans for systemic improvements


WHAT YOU'LL BRING  

  • Be a student pursuing a(n) graduate/ undergraduate degree in one of the following concentrations: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Physics, Chemistry, Statistics OR have demonstrated excellence in one of the above fields
  • Have experience designing and/ or manufacturing products through school work, and/ or 1+ internship(s), and/ or full-time work in one of the following fields: New Product Introduction, Project/ Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality/ Industrialization/ Development, Metrology, Industrial Engineering, and/ or Strategic Sourcing.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD Software (NX preferred) & ability to read Engineering Drawings (with GD&T)
  • Decent understanding of traditional & non-traditional manufacturing processes (Machining, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal Stamping, 3D Printing, etc.)
  • Decent understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) & Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
  • Decent understanding of Problem Solving Frameworks (8D, A3, Pareto Analysis, etc.) & RCA/ CAPA Techniques used within these frameworks
  • Willingness to work in a super fast paced environment that is in a constant state of evolution
