Engineering Geologist

The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board has an opening for an Engineering Geologist. The position is located at 320 w 4th St, Los Angeles, right in the heart of downtown near the historical Grand Central Market, This position will work on water quality protection in oil and gas fields as well as underground fuel storage tank case management.

Duties: For Water Board’s oil and gas and Underground Storage Tanks (UST) cases, interpret detailed geologic cross-sections, geophysical logs, and other information to assess hydrogeology and geology at oil and gas production areas and UST sites. Review and interpret monitoring plans to assess groundwater quality associated with oil and gas and UST related activities. Review, interpret, and report water quality, geologic, land use, and other data to identify trends in statewide groundwater quality and susceptibility. Review results of groundwater studies and evaluate for technical validity. Review and make recommendations to management regarding groundwater monitoring exemption requests submitted by oil and gas operators and UST site responsible parties. Prepare oral and written accounts of findings and determinations in presentations for management, Board Members, and the public.
