Research Associate - Exchanges, Information Analytics and Asset Managers

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., a leading investment bank, is currently seeking an equity research associate to support our coverage in Exchanges, Information Analytics, Digital Assets and Asset Managers. This team has a good mix of coverage in high quality companies and emerging financial technology such as blockchain and digital assets. The position is located in New York City and will be in partnership with the senior analyst to produce high-quality research for institutional investors.

The research associate will support the senior analyst on all aspects of developing and marketing equity research products, including research reports, models, and industry analysis. This position requires the ability to hunt for company specific and macro data points to generate original ideas about stocks under coverage. The research associate will build and maintain both company and industry financial models, as well as take part in writing reports that distill both quantitative and qualitative insights.

The position demands teamwork, independence, initiative, and entrepreneurship. Attention to detail, strong work ethic, ability to work with large data sets and ability to multi-task are also critical. In addition, qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate that they possess an ability to write and communicate clearly and concisely, and are able to work well under pressure. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion in stock picking, 3+ years of work experience in finance/accounting or comparable industry experience, and in pursuit of a CFA. Some exposure in financial technology such as capital markets technology, financial analytics and blockchain/digital assets is preferred but not required.

  • Intellectual curiosity. The position requires a passion for learning and figuring things out, as well as the intellectual nimbleness and integrity to change one’s view in the face of new fact patterns.
  • Analytical and Quantitative skills. The candidate should have the ability to sift through large amounts of data and logically set up a framework for analyzing it.
  • Accounting and valuation. The candidate should have a good understanding of accounting and valuation principals.
  • Financial modeling. An Associate is responsible for building detailed models and for organizing and maintaining industry data. Attention to detail is critical.
  • Independence. Ability to work independently and initiate and accomplish projects with minimal supervision.
  • Writing. Presenting information and analysis in a clear, compelling and organized manner is key. The candidate will take part in writing and producing equity research reports, company initiations, and marketing presentations.
  • Strong sales and communication skills. As time progresses, associates will interact with internal sales and trading and external clients. Responsiveness and professionalism are a must.
  • A passion for the stock market, and equity research. It is highly advantageous to have exposure to the financial markets and equity research.
