Death, Sex & Money Internship at WNYC Studios (September-May)

Death, Sex & Money Internship at WNYC Studios
Death, Sex & Money is the podcast about the things we think about a lot and need to talk about more, hosted by Anna Sale. We are looking for a curious, passionate, and highly motivated intern to join our team for the school year.
Our internship is a hands-on (but mostly remote!) experience, and interns work with the entire DSM staff to participate in all aspects of the show’s production process.

Responsibilities
  • Interns give feedback in editorial meetings, gather research, track listener responses, and prep interviews
  • Pitch guest and episode ideas, sit in on tapings, and select and cut tape in Pro Tools
  • Create and upload content to our social media pages, newsletter, and website
  • Perform other administrative tasks to support the show’s weekly production process

Qualifications
  • There are no specific requirements except excitement for long-form, complex conversations on a wide range of topics, but some familiarity with the show is useful.
  • We’re a small team, so comfort working collaboratively and independently is a plus.
  • Study or previous experience in journalism and/or radio production is valuable, but not necessary.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for an internship at New York Public Radio you must be currently enrolled in, or have graduated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the internship to which you are applying for, from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.

Additional Information
This role is a paid internship with eligibility for college credit. WNYC internships pay $17.50/hour. The internship will commence on September 12th and run through May 5th and interns are expected to work 15 hours per week. The exact schedule and hours will be determined with the finalist.
This internship accepts candidates who will work fully remotely or, if they prefer, in a hybrid (remote/in-person) environment. In order to be eligible, you must be authorized to work in the United States and preferably live/work in a commutable distance of our office.

Local candidates must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, unless NYPR has approved a specific religious or medical exemption in advance of the first day of work. At this time, NYPR defines being fully vaccinated as having received two Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations or one Johnson and Johnson vaccination.

Application Requirements
Please submit your resume, and a cover letter explaining why you’d like to intern at Death, Sex & Money, and what you hope to gain from your experience. In your cover letter or on a separate page, please include your answers to the following questions:
  • Tell us about an episode of Death, Sex & Money that stood out to you. What made it successful, in your opinion?
  • Describe an episode that you think was less successful. What would have made it stronger?
  • Who do you think would be an excellent guest/what do you think would be an excellent topic for Death, Sex & Money?
  • What other podcasts do you listen to regularly?
Only complete applications will be considered.
The deadline to apply is Wednesday, July 20th at 5pm ET.
