The United States of Anxiety Digital Internship at WNYC Studios (September-May)

The United States of Anxiety Digital Internship at WNYC Studios
The United States of Anxiety is a show about the unfinished business of our history, and its grip on our future. Each week, host Kai Wright invites listeners to gather for intimate conversations and deeply reported stories about the choices we’ve made as a society -- and the new choices we can imagine now. We’re learning from our past, meeting our neighbors, and sharing the joy (and the work!) of living in a plural society. The show broadcasts weekly on Sunday nights at 6pm and is released as a podcast.

The intern will support the show by observing and participating in its production, especially helping grow the show’s digital presence. They will lead the creation of the show’s weekly social media assets. They will also sit in on editorial meetings, gather research, and assist with the broadcast each Sunday. Over the course of the term, the intern will gain some fundamental audio skills and help staff mentors produce segments for the shows. They’ll also help execute the show’s digital and marketing strategy. This includes supporting a live-stream production, helping distribute the show on social media, and pitching ideas to engage audiences in new ways.
The intern should be available Sunday evenings (about 4 to 7:15PM) to assist with the show’s live broadcast.

Responsibilities
  • Adapting show content for distribution over social media each week across platforms including Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Helping execute the live show each week by screening calls, monitoring social media for comments, and assisting with any pre-production needs.
  • Assisting with the editorial process of fleshing out pitches, preparing prep documents, and helping produce segments, as needed.

Qualifications
  • Some experience, and great interest in, producing digital content, both written and visual, across social media platforms.
  • Applicants should be highly motivated self-starters who can work in an environment of live news radio.
  • Applicants should be highly interested in and eager to discuss current issues of equity, race, and justice in the United States.
  • Some journalism and office experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience working in content creation platforms including Canva and Adobe Premier, or Final Cut a huge plus, but not required.
