Engineering Student Trainee

The U.S. Government Publishing Office is pleased to announce our Engineering Student Intern Program. In this paid internship program, students will go through extensive orientation, classroom, and on-the-job training to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in the Federal Government. Internship dates and work schedules are flexible to your school schedule. This position also has potential for full-time employment upon graduation.

GPO’s mission is Keeping America Informed as the official, digital, and secure source for producing, preserving, and distributing official Federal Government publications and information products for Congress, Federal agencies, and the American public. As an Engineering Student Intern, you will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing other agencies with innovative services for the printing, publishing, storage, and distribution of digital content. GPO is located in Washington, D.C. just blocks from the U.S. Capitol and one block from Union Station which is a mixed-use, intermodal transportation and shopping center serviced by MARC, VRE, Amtrak, and Metro Red Line trains.

Responsibilities included:

  • Performing assignments and receiving on-the-job training related to the field of quality assurance designed to complement the student's academic studies.
  • Assisting and providing support to professional engineers performing contract management and surveillance activities for government-purchased systems, subassemblies, and components.
  • Learning and performing in fields that may include one or more of the following engineering specializations, general, electronics, mechanical or industrial engineering.
  • Performing specific and routine assignments designed primarily to acquaint the student with the range and scope of duties of the occupational field.

Pay is between $18 (GS-5)-$28 (GS-9) hourly based on experience.
