Fall 2022 Federal Policy Internship

Summary:
Hispanic Federation’s DC office is seeking two interns to join our federal policy team to support
the work of the federal policy team and learn more about the role of federal advocacy, policy,
and politics. This internship is ideal for someone with a strong academic record, excellent
writing, research, and organizational skills, and a strong interest in policy and politics in our
nation’s capital. As part of a small team, the federal policy interns will provide direct
administrative support to the Vice President of Federal Policy and will have the opportunity to
represent the organization at coalition meetings and events. Federal policy interns will gain
substantial exposure to HF priority policy issues, and experience in legislative tracking, analysis,
advocacy strategies, and politics.

This is a hybrid virtual-onsite position. Candidates must be available to work up to 30 hours per
week and to work onsite in HF’s DC office a minimum of two days per week.
This is a paid internship. Interns receive $15.20 per hour; no benefits but will have paid
holidays.

The Fall federal policy internship will begin on August 29, 2022, and end on December 16, 2022.

Responsibilities Include:
• Track policy issues and advocacy activity
• Maintain various Hispanic Federation databases and websites
• Provide administrative support for the D.C. office on various tasks and assignments
including advocacy events and meetings
• Attend policy briefings, coalition meetings and calls, and events on behalf of the
Hispanic Federation D.C. office
• Conduct and synthesize research on federal policy proposals and political and legislative
proceedings into easily accessible information to be used in fact sheets, internal and
external policy briefings, social media, etc.
• May write, edit, and review sections of reports, congressional letters, and other written
materials produced by the D.C. office

Qualifications:
Rising junior or senior undergraduate student enrolled in political science, international
relations, environmental sciences, sociology, or related field, with:
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills
• Strong interest in federal policy issues
• Ability and eagerness to quickly get up to speed on policy-related issues
• Strong commitment to the mission of the Hispanic Federation is required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google platforms
• Professional demeanor
• Fluency in Spanish, including the ability to read, speak, and write is a plus
• Fluency in social media platforms or using social media for advocacy is also a plus
• All HF interns must be able to provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19.
