Entry Level Buried Infrastructure/Water Engineer

Arcadis is currently searching for an Entry Level Engineer to support and grow our Resilience Water team based in Philadelphia, PA.

In this position, you will collaborate on office and field assignments with staff locally and across the country. Arcadis has developed a Center of Excellence around the buried infrastructure / conveyance systems in our Wilmington DE and Philadelphia PA and you will be a key addition to this growing national resource team.

We are looking for dedicated, creative, and energetic candidates interested in tackling challenges and developing sustainable solutions to address key challenges in sanitary/environmental engineering especially in buried infrastructure and conveyance disciplines (i.e. water distribution, sewer (storm, sanitary, combined) collection, pumping, storage and/or treatment systems). Previous experience with inspections, construction, renewal and/or rehabilitation, especially trenchless construction methods, preferred.

This position is likely to include short-term (i.e. 1-4 weeks at a time) travel to project sites. This is a unique opportunity to see various client sites across the US and only those who are open to travel of weeks to months at a time are encouraged to apply. It is anticipated that you will spend 6 – 20 weeks of travel throughout the year.

Role accountabilities:
What skills/attributes you need
  • Must be willing to work in an office and field environment
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD and GIS
  • Physical ability to lift/carry heavy equipment and perform rigorous field investigations such as inspections, condition assessments, and flow monitoring set-up.
  • After receiving training, the candidate will be expected to be comfortable with entering confined spaces (i.e. manholes) to perform field activities and inspections.
  • A valid US driver’s license, with a clean driving record and willingness to travel for field or project assignments.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills to responsibly manage workload multiple, unique assignments with varying deadlines and stakeholders.

What you will do:
  • Communicate regularly (both verbal and written) with staff within own office and across Arcadis, clients, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare progress reports, participate in client meetings and interact with clients, contractors, subcontractors and the general public.
  • Conceptual design through detailed final design, including preparation of contract documents, for municipal, industrial, and remedial water/wastewater treatment plant units, water/sewer force mains, sewer gravity mains, and pump stations.
  • Flow monitoring data interpretation, data management activities, and GIS integration for modeling.
  • Analyze data and develop recommendations for infrastructure renewal and planning/implementing renewal projects.
  • Field activities including construction inspection, inflow & infiltration studies, sampling, asset inventory and condition assessment including confined space entry, subcontractor oversight, and flow monitoring set-up and monitoring.

Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental or other relevant engineering field
  • EIT Certification or ability to obtain such within one year
  • Willingness to travel locally and regionally

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with infrastructure inspection, rehabilitation, design, and/or construction
  • Experience/training with AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS
  • H&S Training including: HAZWOPER Certification, Confined Space Entry and/or OSHA 10-hr or 40-hr Construction Site Safety
  •  Willingness to travel nationally for short-term assignments 1 – 5 weeks
