Estimating Intern Job Description
Responsibilities
- Learn about safety and quality control programs and how to coordinate actions to address problems.
- Assist the Estimating department with takeoffs, plan reading, bid submissions, and RFI’s.
- Record meeting minutes as needed.
- Provide assistance with material and subcontractor quote analyses
- Miscellaneous project coordination tasks as requested.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in Construction Management, Engineering or related education program; no experience required; prior internships or work experience helpful but not required.
- Able to travel as needed to participate in training, seminars, task team meetings, etc.
- Demonstrate expanding knowledge of construction details about miscellaneous metals, casework, doors, specialties, radiation protection, etc.
- Possess good self-organizational and management skills and strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting and exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
Physical Demands:
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a company laptop, iPad, phone, and other business machines
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Generally, the job requires 60% sitting, 25% walking, and 15% standing.
- Ability to communicate orally with management and other co-workers is important. Talking, hearing and vision within normal ranges is important for conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect building plans, blueprints and drawings.
- Activities include extended periods of standing or sitting and extensive work with measuring devices and other machinery.
- Heavy lifting is not expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally is required.
- Please note that climbing stairs is a physical requirement. Some offices contain an elevator but one must be able to use stairs for fire drills and emergencies.
Work Environment:
The job is performed indoors in a variety of settings, including the office, interior building job sites, and job sites outside. While performing the duties of this job on a construction job site, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles (before the use of airscrubbers); outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee may potentially run the risk of being exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses and vest) and safety gear (including appropriate clothing, shoes, and gloves) are required on job sites.
