Accounting Internship - Fall

First Book members work in classrooms, after school, and summer or early childhood programs, shelters and health clinics, libraries, community programs, military support programs, and other settings serving a majority of children in need.

  • A Successful intern will have the following skills/experience:The highest attention to detail, analytical and creative thinking.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of computerized accounting software, including Salesforce and Excel.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and possess excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Be self-motivated and energetic.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be willing and skillful in interacting with a wide variety of people. Pleasant and patient phone manner.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the use and operation of standard office equipment.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.

  • Cool projects you will work on:Monitor Marketplace customer account details for non-payment, delayed payments, and other irregularities.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Communicate with customers via mail, phone, and email in an effort to collect and settle outstanding accounts.
  • Reconciliation of aged receivables for both marketplace activities and deal pipeline revenue.
  • Provide support for validation of sales tax exemption certificates through online tool CertCapture.
  • Fill out vendor or other required forms by First Book Members.
  • Assist with the creation of acknowledgement letters and other mail merges for corporate donations.
  • Assist by entering payables/invoices in the accounting system.
  • Reconciliation of aged payables and vendor statements.
  • Other tasks as assigned to support to the Accounting Department including monitor and resolution of cases via Salesforce.

  • What you will learn:Receivables and payables processes for a social enterprise.
  • Reconciliation of multiple General Ledger revenue and expense accounts.
  • Sales tax regulations and process.
  • Financial procedures and internal processes for a highly accomplished national social enterprise, named by Forbes as one of the top 400 charities nationally.

**In addition to an hourly wage, First Book will pay commuting costs throughout the internship**
