Jr. Hydrogeologist

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Jr. Hydrogeologist for our Merrimack, NH office. Be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

•   Develop thorough knowledge of and participate in standard field sampling procedures for the collection, handling, and shipment of various environmental media (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapor, and air) in compliance with state and federal requirements.
•   Implement environmental sampling plans (sampling and testing).
•   Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
•   Provide assistance in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of hydrologic, geologic, and chemical data obtained during investigations.
•   Assist in preparing project plans and technical reports related to investigation and remediation activities (boring logs, data tables, geologic cross sections).
•   Perform inspection work and compile reports in a timely manner.
•   Supervise contractors and enforce safe operations in the field.
•   Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
•   Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
•   Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
•   Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, laboratory documentation, and logbooks.
•   Complete training on assigned tasks.
•   Engage in a team environment, working closely with project managers and other co-workers to complete work programs.
•   Safely perform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur in all seasonal weather conditions, using equipment (with an ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance) and operating vehicles on behalf of the company.
•   Local and national travel (up to 50% of the time) with possible short-term or long-term assignments at project sites.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
•   Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or closely related discipline.
•   Must have completed at least one college level hydrogeology course.
•   Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
•   Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products.
•   Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
•   Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
•   Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
•   Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
•   Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
•   Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
•   Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
•   Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
•   Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Word), with advanced-level Excel.
•   Excellent verbal with strong writing, analytical, and organizational skills, a positive attitude, detail oriented, and ability to work both independently and within groups.
•   Willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice.
•   Understanding of the importance of health & safety as a top priority and an enthusiasm to participate in WSP's associated programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
•   Master’s Degree or Equivalent Experience.
•   Proficiency with ESRI's ArcGIS software. 
•   Prior experience including internships strongly desired.
•   Knowledge of organic and inorganic chemical analyses, including USEPA analytical methods.
•   Experience with EQuIS™ Professional.
•   40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 8-hour refresher (as applicable) are required for site work.
