SQL Server Database Administrator
What You'll Do
As part of the Database Operations team, you will be responsible for implementing and managing a Microsoft SQL Server environment supporting the national security mission to maintain the safety, security, and effectiveness of the United States nuclear weapons stockpile. As part of the IT organization’s Database Operations team, you will be responsible for all Microsoft SQLServer databases supporting business, production, manufacturing, and engineering projects. The SQL Server Administrator position will be part of a team that provides day-to-day administration and support for the various SQL Server environments.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server database software to company standards and cyber requirements
- Configure and maintain database backups
- Perform database restores, recoveries, clones
- Provide performance tuning
- Configure SQL Server monitoring tools/utilities to optimally surface issues and minimize false alarms
- Maintains and ensures database consistency, integrity, security and auditing in accordance with regulatory and compliance requirements
- Migrate/upgrade Microsoft SQL Server software to the latest versions possible and apply patches on schedule
- Experience with submitting help tickets and working directly with Microsoft Support
- Work closely with the applications development team to ensure successful deployment and performance of database applications
- Identify and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and resource contention.
- Contribute to the database team in providing 24X7 on-call rotation
- Document all work via Service Now tickets
- Participate in customer meetings both at the project and enterprise level

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- OR Master's degree in engineering/science/information technology discipline
- 5+ years of hands-on administration with combinations of SQL server 2008 and above
Preferred Job Requirements
- Significate experience with High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL server
- Expert knowledge of Performance Tuning/Optimization
- Direct working experience with virtualization
- Experience managing security within the SQL Server environment
- Expert-level knowledge of backups, restores, recoveries, and clones
- Experience working with Windows Servers and Active Directory (AD)
- Experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
- Knowledge of BI, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
- At least a working knowledge of the ITEL Service Management Processes
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of programming skills in T-SQL, PowerShell, VBScript
- At least a working knowledge of the ITEL Service Management Processes

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
