System Safety Engineer Level 4 (00000321339)

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior System Safety Engineer (Level 4) in Huntsville, AL (hybrid 2-3 days/week in office with 2-3 days remote).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES      
Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Conduct hazard analyses in accordance with SLS-RQMT-015 SLS “Program Hazard Analysis Requirements” to identify and document all hazards and their associated causes, controls and verifications, and assess the residual safety risk.
  • Work alongside systems, design, and test engineers to identify hazards, eliminate the hazards where possible, and control residual hazards to acceptable risk levels.
  • Conduct safety assessments of non-conformances and waivers or deviations for impacts to hazard cause likelihoods and communicate results to specified boards.
  • Represent system safety as the prime technical contact to specified engineering and test teams. 
  • Provide leadership in establishing plan and schedule to complete for assigned efforts
  • Serve as team interface to NASA customer for assigned efforts. 

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.  No clearance required but must be US Citizen due to CUI – ITAR information. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Engineering degree or equivalent. 
  • 9 years experience System Safety Engineering
  • 5 years experience in NASA programs

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science Degree or Higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with SLS- RQMT- O15

Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
