Intern - Nursing & Senior Services (Fire Department)

PAY RATE: $17.44 per hour based on a 35-hour workweek.

JOB SUMMARY:
This position assists the Nursing & Senior Services Division members in a variety of projects and day-to-day activities. This position will contribute to program development and assist in its delivery.  
Position is for the summer months typically based on a 35-hour work week.
 
To succeed in this role the ideal candidate will need to effectively communicate to a full range of people, be able to shift gears comfortably, and have the ability to prioritize multiple projects, organize time and work cooperatively with others.
 
JOB DUTIES:
1.   Assists in the development of a senior outreach program that will offer companionship and/or outdoor task completion for select senior citizens in the community via volunteer participation.
2.   Assists in the cleaning of returned equipment to the loan closet.
3.   Assists in reorganization of medical equipment loan items while designating certain pieces for permanent donation to residents.
4.   Participates in the delivery of senior programming at the Barn senior center.
5.   Updates and organizes community resource material and postings at both the Nursing office and the Barn.
6.   Participates in special projects/research into current village and community health programs, as well as gaps in service to determine potential service offerings necessary to achieve a level comparable to certified health departments.
7.   Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.   Minimum of an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or equivalency of college hours.
2.   In process of obtaining a Bachelor's or Graduate Degree in a health-related field.
3.   A minimum of six months of customer service experience.
4.   Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment. 

Knowledge of basic structure and operation of municipal government. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with members of village staff, village consultants, Schaumburg residents and businesspeople, and members of the public who come in contact with the village. Ability to function as part of a team. Ability to make verbal and written presentations using Microsoft Office Suite of applications. Ability to utilize the internet for work related research. Ability to plan, organize, schedule time to work effectively within a municipal environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1.   This position works in a typical office setting at times. May also work in an environment requiring the use of water/steam and cleaning supplies.
2.   Ability to interact with various other organizational members and public groups.
3.   Occasional visits to work and project sites, which will require a personal vehicle.
4.   Must be able to spend time on one’s feet for extended periods of time and be able to lift approximately 20 pounds.
