We are seeking an hourly summer Intern
 
By participating in a research internship at Fred Hutch, you will:
  • Be afforded an educational experience during which you will work on meaningful assignments

Responsibilities


The intern position with focus on visualization of the output of epidemiological transmission models for web applications. Applicant will be joining a dynamic multi-disciplinary group which develops COVID transmission models for Washington State and Oregon. Among the key objectives of the modeling work are improving the understanding of SARS-CoV-2 transmission and COVID-19 disease dynamics, informing effective public health strategies, and guiding rational development of new preventive interventions. The position will require a substantial amount of programming in R, good organization and communication skills.


Qualifications


  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and pursuing a degree in computer science, mathematics, or statistics. Must be in your third year and entering fourth year of your degree program
  • Basic knowledge about calculus and statistics at college introductory level
  • Statistical programming experience with R is a required for data manipulation and data visualization
  • Experience with dplyr, shiny, and ggplot2 would helpful in this role
  • Experience with population models (epidemic, predator-prey) or is a plus
