Postdoctoral Fellow, Molecular Genetics
Position Summary
An open position for a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Genetics is available in the Research Department at Ultragenyx Pharmaceuticals. The successful applicant will lead a project to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms of a rare genetic disease with the goal of identifying novel therapeutics. The applicant will also be part of a larger team to develop disease-modifying therapies, including the design and characterization of different nucleic acid therapies and delivery mechanisms. The applicant should have a strong background in genetics, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and cell sciences. The candidate must demonstrate scientific productivity, creativity, and independence with publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and strong letters of support.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a project to understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms of a rare genetic disease with the goal of identifying novel therapeutics and relevant pharmacodynamic biomarkers.
- Be part of a multidisciplinary team that develops and tests novel disease-modifying therapies.
- Evaluate nucleic acid therapies and delivery mechanisms through a critical evaluation ofthe scientific literature and by attending scientific conferences and symposia.
- Lead and/or contribute to filing of patent applications based on body of work and inventions
- Prepare relevant manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals and present work at notable conferences or symposia.
Requirements:
- A PhD in Genetics or related disciplines with an emphasis on genetics, genomics, or epigenomics, such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Neuroscience
- Strong background experience in molecular genetics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. Experience analyzing RNA-sequencing data is required. Experience in the following areas is also desired: cell culture(including generating inducible pluripotent stem cell lines), single-cell RNA-sequencing technologies, design and delivery of nucleic acid modalities [e.g., small interfering RNAs, antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), and viral-mediated gene therapy]
- Demonstrable evidence of a high level of independent, creative, and critical thinking skills
- Highly effective verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
- First author publication(s) in high-impact or subspeciality scientific journals
