Fall 2022 - Fair and Event Internship

The Greater Gulf State Fair, Inc. (GGSF) seeks a dynamic self-starter to assist with event communications, planning, and execution. The internship is approximately 20 hours a week at the GGSF admin offices, The Grounds. It is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communications and special events while working for a well-known community-based nonprofit organization. GGSF works extremely hard to pull off the largest event in Mobile, but we have a great time while doing so. We are looking for someone with a good sense of humor, who can show up ready to work hard and have fun!

Responsibilities
  • Assist Fair Manager and staff with final planning and execution of GGSF 2022.

  • Assist with needs relating to on-grounds entertainment and music concerts, Intern will manage and/or assist with ancillary/daily events such as the Daily Parade, Funnel Cake Run, Kick-Off BBQ Lunch, GGSF Pageant, Moos and Brews, contests, etc.

  • Assist with vendor management, agricultural competitions, and exhibits.

  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and avenues for self-produced events.

Qualifications
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite/Google Docs, Sheets, etc.
  • Must have a firm grasp of available tools and platforms in the social media space
  • Must be an effective communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines. Must be able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced and fun environment
  • Must be available to work shifts most of the ten days of GGSF, within reason (Friday, 10.28 - Sunday, 11.6). GGSF will work with intern on their availability and scheduling
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g. Hospitality/Tourism. Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing, communications, or events is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Greater Gulf State Fair Inc. and the community we serve

Hours: Flexible depending on the intern's availability and needs, up to 20 hours a week from August - to the end of October. October 24 - November 6: Hours and incentives will increase if desired.

Pay: Depends on the amount of Credit Course Hours required or the hours worked if not for Course Credit. Intern will receive lots of perks and GGSF goodies including Intern Badge (daily access to the fair and VIP Hospitality room), as well as free fair tickets, t-shirts, hats, coozies, etc.
