TITLE:               Social Media Marketing Internship 
 
REPORTS TO:   Pennsylvania SBDC Director of Marketing & Communications                                        
 
PURPOSE:  The Small Business Development Center Marketing/Management Student Internship Program is designed to enhance the student's formal academic education by providing an opportunity for the student to test skills and knowledge via exposure to an actual institutional or commercial enterprise. This role will support the PASBDC's marketing team on existing initiatives including but not limited to creating graphics and design for annual reports, event programs, flyers, diagrams and icons, branding, business cards, PowerPoint templates, marketing materials, and a variety of other print design work as well as brand support graphics in the social media digital space. This role will also be able to apply critical thinking skills to conduct strategic marketing analysis for the PASBDC, consult with social media/marketing clients, and participate in brainstorming meetings for new marketing initiatives and projects. Project components may include, but not be limited to: developing branding strategy, defining target markets, defining market segments, developing marketing materials, analyzing client social media platforms, analyzing client websites, and analyzing competitors.   
 
GOALS:  By the end of the semester, the intern will have a comprehensive understanding of the PASBDC's social media and marketing initiatives. The intern will also be able to apply critical thinking skills to conduct strategic social media and marketing analysis, and social media analytics for the PASBDC. The position will also be required to consult with social media/marketing clients and/or the state network. In addition, the intern will gain a working knowledge of the center's CRM system and assist in performing data entry, generating periodic reports, and tracking consulting sessions under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communication.  
 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   
Gain a working knowledge of the center CRM system. Assist in performing data entry, generating periodic reports, and tracking consulting sessions under the supervision of the Consulting Specialist.   
Assist with the development of social media marketing materials. 
Assist existing business clients with marketing analysis and conducting strategic business. Project components may include, but not be limited to: developing a branding strategy, defining target markets, defining market segments, developing marketing materials, analyzing client social media platforms, analyzing client websites, and analyzing competitors.   
Meet weekly for experiential learning projects based on the PASBDC Marketing needs
Create graphics/images for various social media purposes.
Create electronic newsletters
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS:   
Minimum requirements:   
Candidates have, or will have, 75 credits completed by the beginning of the term in which the internship will occur, and pursuing a concentration in Social Media, Marketing or Business Management  
Have, or will have, completed the business core with a QPA of 2.0 or better 
Have, or will have, an overall QPA of 2.0 or better. 
Successful completion of an interview 
A working knowledge of MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint  
Excellent written and oral communication skills 
Ability to work in a fast-paced team consulting environment that utilizes virtual communication technology to communicate with clients 
A valid driver's license and F1-Visa is required (if applicable) before work can commence.   
Preferred: 
Additional coursework in website design, social media, marketing, communication design, entrepreneurship and/or business planning. 
Some previous work experience in a small to medium-sized business.
