Drafting Technician - Dallas, TX
Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) solves some of the most interesting challenges in the built world, and the Drafting Technician plays a key role in helping project teams deliver high quality, accurate construction documents, efficiently and within budget, all while meeting the demands of a fast-paced work environment.
WJE's team in Dallas, Texas, is seeking an exceptional Technician to assist with the development of preliminary and final CAD drawings for the design and repair of structural, facade, roofing, and waterproofing systems in both new and existing construction. A successful person in this role will demonstrate an independent work ethic, strong organizational skills, and an ability to adapt to changing priorities and demands from multiple project teams, all while maintaining superior interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare preliminary and final structural and architectural drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit using information derived from a combination of existing construction documents, field notes, sketches, and verbal instructions
- Provide input and assist with updating and maintaining local and company-wide CAD standards and detail library
- Potential for involvement with fieldwork, including on-site investigation, construction observation, diagnostic water testing, non-destructive testing, and structural load testing, if desired
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency using Autodesk AutoCAD and knowledge of industry design and drafting standards
- An Associate’s degree or better in construction technology, drafting technology, computer-aided design, or related field (equivalent experience will be considered in place of a degree)
- Enthusiasm and curiosity for solving problems and understanding how things work
- Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with MS Office suite, Bluebeam, Google SketchUp, and Autodesk Revit preferred

This position requires visual acuity and listening ability. Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:
- Ability to attend meetings at the various office, field, and construction sites
- Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to perform work in the temperature extremes presented by work in the outdoors
- Ability to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materials, and computer screens
- Ability to record data clearly and write passages for reports, letters, etc.
- Ability to travel
- Ability to safely work at heights
- Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
- Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazards
- Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations
- Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
- Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle
