Commerce Writer (This is a fully remote position)
NJ Advance Media, the parent company for NJ.com and The Star-Ledger, is looking for a business-minded commerce writer to lead initiatives around online shopping content as part of our growing affiliate revenue department.
This person will write stories about the latest sales and best deals, as well as provide readers with recommendations across a range of product categories and verticals, including home, fashion, and tech.
The ideal candidate is someone who wants to help readers discover great deals and products, understands the importance of SEO, can write multiple articles daily, and is motivated to generate significant and sustainable revenue through content.
This is an editorial position on our Content Innovation team. The role is during standard business hours, with the exception being major shopping events such as Prime Day and Black Friday. Candidates do not need to reside in the New Jersey area.
Job duties and responsibilities:
- Help inform readers in all phases of their shopping journey, from browsing to researching to buying
- Pitch ideas, write stories and curate content that includes best deals, lists of sales, “where to buy” guides, “how-to” explainers, and product reviews and recommendations
- Employ best practices in SEO and use data from our available tools to guide decisions so content can reach large audiences and generate affiliate revenue
- Track analytics and key metrics to ensure content is performing as expected
- Use social media to source and promote content
- Collaborate with other commerce writers and editors
You should apply if you have:
- Minimum 2 years’ journalism experience, ideally in commerce writing or affiliate revenue
- Knowledge of SEO best practices
- An understanding of how to generate affiliate revenue through content
- Clean writing copy, plus a solid understanding of news writing and story structure
- An ability to work independently under deadline pressure while prioritizing tasks appropriately
- A passion for digesting data and understanding audience metrics
- A competitive nature and mindset
- A degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field
