Responsible for providing effective leadership in fulfilling the mission of County Parks and the Recreation & Cultural Services Division at the County Fairgrounds, to include oversight and management of the County Fair and special events. Supervises assigned staff and volunteers; develops and coordinates programming and scheduling at the fairgrounds, including the annual County Fair.
  • Responsible for providing effective leadership in fulfilling the mission of County Parks and the Recreation & Cultural Services Division at the County Fairgrounds. 
  • Creates and manages a quarterly schedule of revenue generating non-County Fair programming; ensures programming goals are achieved. Oversees and coordinates special events and services with citizen committees, community organizations, vendors, and County staff. 
  • Develops and oversees annual events, including the County Fair and other special events. 
  • Oversees and coordinates marketing and public relations for the County Fairgrounds and special events, to include negotiating and purchasing media advertisements. Develops and leads related marketing and sponsorship activities, website updates, and social media efforts.
  • Develops sponsorships program in collaboration with the Community Outreach Coordinator, to include developing solicitation packages, meeting with potential sponsors, and securing sponsorships and in-kind goods and services. 
  • Negotiates entertainment agreements in coordination with the Recreation & Cultural Services Division Manager and the Procurement Division. 
  • Assigns and supervises the work of assigned staff and volunteers; assigns programs, projects, and project leaders and monitors progress. Provides guidance and training to employees; determines and coordinates ongoing training of assigned staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance to include a high level of customer service and professionalism; participates in the hiring and disciplinary process. 
  • Manages volunteer programs including County Fair volunteers; directs and oversees the activities of the Fair Advisory Board with programming.
  • Assists Division Manager with budgetary oversight, including developing strategies for increasing revenue from programs and events, preparing revenue projections, drafting event budgets, and monitoring event income and expenses. 
  • Completes timely and accurate event data collection and development of reports. 
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent education required. Bachelor's degree in event management, parks and recreation administration, non-profit administration, marketing, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in coordinating and marketing special events. 
  • Previous experience with sponsorship solicitations, advertising, and sales preferred. 
  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of County Fair operations, 4H, and related programs. 
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff and ensure that assignments are completed in a proper and timely manner.
  • Ability to lead and train others; ability to objectively review and evaluate the performance of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, elected officials, news media, donors, vendors, volunteers, and the general public. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to operate a variety of standard office equipment, including multi-line telephone, fax machine, computer, printer and copier. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Access.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for education and experience requirements above.
  • Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen.
Licenses/Certificates
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License.
Work Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office environment and outside at the County Fairgrounds and other event locations; some travel may be required. Work week is typically Tuesday through Saturday and requires occasional evening and Sunday/Monday hours.
