Paid, Part-Time Placement for Graduate & Undergraduate Students
 
The New York State Office of the Attorney General’s (OAG) Information Security Office (ISO) is seeking applications from graduate and undergraduate students for a paid, part-time placement; this is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing careers in cyber security to gain valuable practical experience in the field. The ISO is primarily responsible for developing security related support services for the OAG. The selected student will be involved in critical, hands-on work that will have an immediate impact on the ISO’s portfolio. Additionally, the student will learn from and collaborate with the ISO’s team of skilled information security professionals who are committed to safeguarding the OAG’s data and IT infrastructure from continuously evolving online/cyber threats. Students with immediate availability are preferred.
 
Assignments will include but not be limited to the following:
·        Participating in daily security matrix review;
·        Assisting with vulnerability assessments and infiltration testing;
·        Participating in incident investigations, including documenting and tracking these incidents;
·        Researching policies and best practices and participating in brainstorming meetings with the ISO team to improve internal processes and the OAG’s overall cyber security posture; and
·        Assisting with digital investigations, incident response efforts and other special projects.
 
We are seeking applicants with the following qualifications:
·        Applicants must be currently enrolled in a full-time graduate or undergraduate information security, cybersecurity, computer science or information technology degree program;
·        A demonstrated interest in cyber security and a basic knowledge of industry standard security concepts, tools and devices;
·        Excellent reporting and incident documentation skills;
·        Strong verbal and written communications skills:
·        Proactive and organized with the ability to self-manage assignments and deadlines;
·        Capable of working well both independently and as a member of a team; and
·        Strong technology skills and proficiency at using the MS Office Suite.
 
Placement Details
·        The Bureau will consider applicants who are available to work remotely or in a hybrid placement of some in office and some remote work consistent with all COVID-19 health and safety guidelines. If working in a hybrid placement, the selected student must be available to work in either the OAG’s New York City or Syracuse offices as directed by their supervisor. Per OAG policy, confirmation of full vaccination status will be required for this placement. If you are not fully vaccinated, you will be required to provide weekly negative COVID-19 PCR test results. The agency will consider religious and reasonable accommodations. ·        To be eligible, undergraduate students must be either rising juniors or seniors.
·        To be eligible for a paid placement, applicants must be able to demonstrate they are full-time undergraduate or graduate students in good academic standing as defined by their schools.
·        Applicants must be available to work between 15-30 hours per week during the summer term (June-August), students who are also available to work during the upcoming academic year (2022-23) are preferred. Please be advised that reappointment for additional semesters/terms is possible but neither automatic nor guaranteed.
·        The selected candidate will be hired as a student assistant and paid hourly at either the graduate student rate, which is $16.22, or the undergraduate student rate, which is $14.71.

·        U.S. citizenship and NYS residency are not required, but applicants must be eligible to be employed in the U.S.

4.      Writing Sample
-       Select a sample from an assignment you prepared for school that demonstrates your ability to analyze and organize information into an effective document.
-       A writing sample that demonstrates your ability to document and assess cyber threats, risks and/or intrusions is preferred.
