About the Development Intern Position
The Development Intern position at Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation is a unique opportunity to work in a well-established Foundation focused on statewide early literacy education initiatives in Tennessee. The intern will be a part of a growing and vibrant fundraising and development program, with a wealth of learning and professional contribution opportunities. The intern will be included as a part of the small, dynamic Foundation team and participate in organization-wide activities. The intern will be encouraged to capitalize on professional development opportunities and offered resources to increase their professional and self-knowledge.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Development Director, the Development Intern at Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) will assist with the pursuit and management of individual, corporate, foundation, and government support. The Intern will assist with data entry, prospect research, sponsorship proposals, grant applications, and other development activities as assigned. The Intern will be an active member of GELF team meetings and may also participate in meetings with prospects and funders to enhance learning opportunities.
Responsibilities
· Data entry of historical and current donor information and communication into Salesforce
· Institutional and Individual prospect research, linking GELF’s programs, events, and initiatives with the interests of prospective donors
· Assist with sponsorship proposal creation
· Assist with grant application writing and preparation
· Assist with the donor acknowledgement process
· Draft donor communications
· Assist with the creation of development collateral
· Assist in planning and execution of major fundraising activities and events
· Assist with the preparation of reports and presentations
· Support the building and refinement of the annual Development calendar and day-to-day management processes for a new fundraising and development program
· Support other development activities, as assigned
Requirements
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Strong research skills
· Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
· Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and Publisher
· Experience with Salesforce a plus
· Experience in marketing and communications or development a plus
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a passion for GELF’s mission and strong communication, organizational, and research skills. Discretion in donor communications and information management required. Interest and experience in nonprofit fundraising and development preferred.
Hours: 16 hours/week; 50% in office (Thursdays), 50% remote; Minimum three-month commitment.
Time Period: Begins summer 2022 (start/end dates flexible)
Compensation: Unpaid. Opportunity for school credit, if permitted by the college/university of applicant. Position offers the opportunity to build experience applicable to sales, business development and administration, and nonprofit management and can result in a great reference and ongoing mentorship.
